"Pink Is My Signature Color"
Julia Roberts, in Steel
Magnolias.
|
This is a true story. The pink binkit
is our personal pet name for Gypsy's most treasured
possession. It is from a children's story book titled "Where
Is My Blanket" which chronicles a little kitten's search for
his favorite fuzzy blanket calling, "where's my binkit?"
Gypsy is my family's first experience
with Chihuahua dogs, but I had two as a child which I loved
very much. My family quickly learned of the Chihuahua dogs'
unique habit of "burrowing". Chihuahuas are a warm-blooded
breed with sparse coats, especially the smooth coated
Chihuahuas, and will chill easily. It is a universal trait
of the Chihuahua breed to burrow deep under covers and make
a "nest" to keep warm. I have devoted an entire page on this
site to tips for keeping your Chihuahua warm.

I was so smitten with our new Chihuahua puppy when we
brought her home that I purchased soft, fuzzy baby blankets
for Gypsy to nest in. One blanket became her favorite right
away...the pink binkit! At first we thought our imaginations
were running wild, but as I added to her selection of
binkits in various colors she still preferred pink above all
others. That is why was say pink is her signature color,
just like Julia Roberts in the movie "Steel Magnolias."
The Pink Binkit took on even more
significance in January of 2000 when Gypsy became
mysteriously ill and spent a week in the animal hospital.
She was so very sick...we thought we were going to loose
her! Through it all, though, she had her Pink Binkit to
comfort her. I would take Gypsy a fresh, clean pink binkit
when we were allowed to visit. Or, the kind caregivers at
the animal hospital would wash them for her. Slowly she
recovered and has been the picture of health ever since, but
to this day when we take Gypsy to the doctor we always wrap
her in . . . The Pink Binkit!

We are forever grateful to the doctors and staff at
Harris Animal Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia for all
their expert and loving care of our Chihuahua Gypsy
throughout her life. Thank you from the bottom of
our hearts for saving her life and for being so
tender and loving to her every time she comes to
visit!
