This is another of the favorite holiday
recipes at meetgypsy.com! This is a very old recipe handed down to my years
ago by a relative. I do not get to use recipes for ham very often as my
daughter Barbara does not like ham. So, on the rare occasions when I do cook
ham recipes I like to pull out all the stops! I have tried other brands of
bourbon, but Old Forrester®
has a unique aroma and taste which really accents the ham which cooking.
Be sure you mix the bourbon and other ingredients for this recipe in advance
and chill it overnight to let the recipe's ingredients have time to blend
and "age" properly. Please let us know if you try our recipes and how you
like them. We love hearing from our visitors who have tried our recipes.
½ cup dry red wine
½ cup
Bourbon (I prefer Old Forrester)
1 cup brown sugar, packed
6 whole
cloves
2 tablespoons grated orange peel
Mix all ingredients and chill overnight. Score ham diagonally
in two directions. Garnish with canned pineapple rings and cocktail cherries
if desired., using wood toothpicks to hold in place. Baste ham with Bourbon
glaze during cooking.
This glaze gives ham a really delicious
flavor and smells so good while cooking. Leftover ham is great on sandwiches
with just a little mustard, or try it the way we Southerners do....on ham
biscuits!
